I feel, as the British say, like a tit for posting the above but someone did make the nice icon and I figured, what the hell. I'm sure most of you have no clue what it means, no should you. It's just a discworld reference and only comprehended by those who have delved a little too deep into the pit that's known as fandom.
A lot of the people on a discworld community I watch went one step further and were all agog over a commemorative pin put out just for this occasion with the proceeds to go to Alzheimer's research. Now, I love the discworld novels as much as the next person, but I just can't see spending 50 dollars to buy something that I know I would never wear and even if I did, no one would get. I imagine there must be more Pratchett fans in the UK so if you picked up something like this you could at least exchange knowing smiles with people on the street and the occasional enthusiastic high-5. After all, what's the point of sending out a message that no one will ever receive and understand. It's like throwing a party for 1 in your closet.
Anyway, for those of you who are discworld fans, happy lilac day. For those of you that aren't, you probably weren't missing anything all that interesting anyway. It also just happens to be
It's just about time that I should set off to the Bill's for their memorial day party. I'm thinking about stopping at some stores on the way there. There are some pretty unbelievable deals on video games that start today and if I could actually find any in stock, I could easily flip them on ebay for some small amount of filthy lucre.

I'd much rather be in bed right now. Well, actually, let me rephrase that since I am in bed right now. I'd rather be sleeping in bed right now. I was exhausted by 1am or so and fell asleep only to springboard back up 2 hours later. Pain issues have since kept me from being able to try to sleep again and so I've just been puttering around online, looking for something with which to occupy my time. It's amazing just how many hours of my life is taken up in this sort of activity. After running out of things to read, I figured I might as well update the LJ.
Yesterday was another game day at the Panera. In general, the usual suspects showed up though Lori missed this one due to prior commitments. I hear she was busy shaking her money maker somewhere upstate. I had been hoping to at least pass her the copies of Runebound expansions since
prismcat didn't show either.
It ended up being a fairly light game day overall. I brought along a buncha small games and we ended up running through around a half dozen games of No Thanks, a couple of King's Breakfast, and then one of Through the Desert. I also tortuously sat through a game of Puerto Rico. The only options were that or Settlers, which is to say a rock and a hard place. Things didn't end up running as long as usual since the Bill's wanted to get home early in order to clean the house before their Memorial Day party today. According to them, Randy's RSVP'ed which is good to hear. I haven't seen him in ages.

So yesterday was sort of Mother's day part II. Since my mom had to watch the restaurant, it was my uncle's turn to take out my grandmother. I hadn't really been thinking much about it since forward planning is not really a part of my life anymore. I really do have this tendency to live moment to moment. That's sort of what happens whenever you have all this uncertainty hanging over your head with the whole medical issues. Anyway, Shelley asked if I wanted to come along with the whole lot of them around 15-20 minutes before they were supposed to leave and I had just rolled out of bed. It usually takes at least a hour before I can hope that my pills kick in and so the first part of the morning was not exactly a pleasant experience.
In the end, I got sort of lucky with the choice of restaurant. Everyone had decided they wanted to go get dim sum at at a place called Wonder Seafood. It's probably the best chinese restaurant hands down in the area. On the off chance you're reading this Lori, I still want to take you there at some point. Just give me a ring one of these days and enough warning ahead of time and we can plan a outing. Anyway, the place has started to really develop a reputation and when I got there, there were people spilling out the doors waiting for a table. There must've been at the minimum 30 people milling around outside waiting to get in and another 20-25 waiting inside. I can't remember the last time I've seen crowd that size waiting for a table anywhere. Because of the vastness of the crowd, I was able to sit in the car and give my meds more time to start working. I didn't exactly time it but it was at least another 30 minutes before we got a table and everyone else had already been waiting for quite some time since I got there late.
The meal itself was spiffy as always. I <3 dim sum. It's impossible not to. It really does live up to its name. (For those of you unaware, dim sum generally translates as a touch/token of the heart) After the meal ended, everyone was planning to head back to my grandmother's for dessert but I noticed that my pills were missing. I'm still not sure exactly what happened to them, though I might have ended up leaving them at the Panera on saturday in my rush to get home. Without pills, there was no way I could stick around. I had been planning to run some other errands but those plans were stymied as well.
