I <3 Borders

In the past, I've never been much of a borders fan. On the whole continuum of book stores, I would wobble back and forth between the two lodestones of Barnes and Noble and Amazon. In general, I'd buy from brick and mortar stores of the former and online from the latter. This was ecspecially true back in the day when both companies would slash prices and issue coupons out the wazoo. I don't know if anyone has taken a look around lately but those heady days of free everything are long gone. At this point, both places pretty much sell paperback books at retail cost with no discounts whatsoever. Not only is that wrong, but I'm pretty sure it violates one of God's Commandments. I'm not sure exactly which one, but I think it was one of the latter ones after the thing about thou shalt not fuck goats or something.

Anyway, enter borders which has won my fickle and tempermental allegiance for issuing coupons and discounts. Not to mention being the only, ONLY store to send me anything for my birthday. I got a coupon for a free dessert and 15% off a book. The slice of carrot cake is sitting in my fridge right now and I have a terry pratchett book on the floor with me. They have a new membership whozit that's free to join and offers you discount coupons in the 15-25% off range for any one item. Pretty impressive considering that B&N just upped their little membership club to a yearly fee of $25 and all you get is 10% off. In addition, Borders gives you 5% of everything you spend as a gift certificate at the end of the year if you meet the cutoff. If not, it just rolls over and keeps growing. I've decided to pick up a buncha paperbacks I've been looking for one at a time every time I pick up one of those coupons. It's a slow process, but I'm not in any particular rush anyway.

Seems pretty farging pointless to me but what the hell

How popular are you?

Your 'popularity rating' is the probability of a user clicking on random Friends links to be at your profile page at any point in time. That's the essence of the PageRank algorithm—it's a traffic estimate based on the Web's link structure. It's presented on a logarithmic scale to make it easier to understand. By the way, the median popularity ranking is 1.25/10. 50% of LiveJournal users are ranked above 1.25, and 50% are ranked below.

Well that seems pretty arbitrary and stupid. Maybe a better term than popularity is visability if all it lists is the liklihood that someone accidently manages to stumble over your journal through a friends list. Even that's lacking since it wouldn't account for the number of people who actually do see the thing or visit. Besides, there's no way I'm almost a point less popular than quartzie. It's just completly bassackwards.

On a sidenote, I'm still working my way through watching all the seasons of Ranma 1/2 and I just have to say that if I had a 15 inch long tongue, I wouldn't be using it to snatch cupcakes off my head. The entire two episodes on French Martial Arts Dining is just freaking disturbing as hell.
