Why fucking why?!

Civilization is still giving me problems and I can't figure out fucking why. The damn thing is slower than a parkinsons patient trying to playing pickup sticks. I've done just about everything I can think of to fix the issue but it's still coughing up problems and crashes as I get into the latter part of the game. So far I have:

1) Updated to the latest patch

2) Updated my video driver

3) Turned all the graphics/resolutions on the game to low

4) Upped my AGP aperture whozit on the bios to 256k

What the hell else is there that I can do? I have a 3.0 gig processor, which should be enough for the job and 512 megs of ram. I've got a NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200 which I'll be the first to admit I know fuck nothing about, but this guy seems to be sporting a woody over it so I assume it's at least tolerable. I wasn't able to wring any more comprehension from it than that since he might as well have been speaking in tongues.

So come on people. Tell me what the hell is wrong with my computer. What the hell should I be running that I'm not running so that this game is shitting all over me.

Recommended System Requirements

Operating System: Windows® 2000/XP (Check)

Processor: 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon processor or equivalent (Check)

Memory: 512 MB RAM (Check)

Hard Disk Space: 1.7 GB Free (Check)

CD-ROM Drive : 4X Speed (Check)

Video: 128 MB Video Card w/ DirectX 8 support (pixel & vertex shaders) (I'm assuming 'Check' here. That video card whozit confuses me but I seem to recall it was a 128 MB.)

Sound: DirectX 9.0c-compatible sound card (Check)

DirectX®: DirectX® version 9.0c (included) or higher (Check)

Someone tell me what the f-ing malfunction is!
