Google saves lives

For once, teh internets has proven to be a force for good. Earlier today, google helped save the life of Lucky the Maltese. Turns out that my mom took him and another one of the dogs out with her when she went to do some shopping. It was a pretty cool day here, just topping the mid 70's but it's been humid as heck. At one point, they were left in the car with the windows opened for around 20 minutes and it was enough to send Lucky into a spazz attack. By the time she called me over, he was panting really loud and fast and was trembling, looking unsteady on his feet. She had no clue what was wrong with him but a quick google search showed that the culprit was heat exhaustion. The search also provided info on what to do as treatment so he got a dunking in cool water, with the fan going. It wasn't too long before he was back to normal and prancing about.

It's the first time I've ever seen heat exhaustion before, and I certainly wouldn't have suspected it on so mild a day. Without the info identifying what was wrong, we probably would have just left him alone, hoping he would recover. God only knows what sorta damage that might have caused. My sister is going to take him to the vet in a couple days just to make sure he's hunky dorey, but aid was applied so quickly that I'm sure he's probably fine.

On a sidenote, I've now got a giant tub of codeine in front of me. It's supposedly enough to kill 14-28 people. Hmmm....
