I've never payed much attention to what you do with money as far as investing. I just assumed that most people, those who weren't investing in a 401k or the stock market directly went out and bought CD's. Now that I'm looking into it though, there seems to be a hell of a lot of different options all offering different rates. The way I figure it, I have some money that's just sitting around and it's very unlikely I'll need it for anything in the near future. That being the case, I feel like I should do something positive with it, preferably that will put it to work earning more money. I'm not looking for anything spectacular, mostly just a means of not feeling like it's sitting around being wasted.
I'm sure a lot of you out there are more experienced than I am with this sort of thing so I'm more than open to suggestions. I figure it'll be a long term sort of investment without a huge amount of starting capital, around 6k or thereabouts.
