Internet cross dressing

I've made a few entries over the years about selling wedding coasters to bridezillas online. I inherited the whole thing from my sister who ended up buying huge cases of them before her own wedding. For the past couple of years, I've been helping out and answering the emails and shipping out orders in her name.

It's been a long time since Connie has actually posted on any of the wedding forums advertising the items. It turns out that it's not even necessary. Surprisingly, word of mouth has made me the Coaster Queen. I still get at least a few people each month emailing and asking to purchase the wedding coasters. I've even gotten people asking for them from the damn Philippines and god only knows what series of events made that happen. Many of the emails say that they saw the coasters at friend's wedding or heard of them from a friend of a friend of a friend. It's just amazing really. I can almost see how those online small businesses survive with this little venture. It's all just word of mouth and people seeing your items. The really surprising part is that it's just coasters. It's not even like a line of items with an online store or anything. Despite all that, I still get people asking for them month after month.

In the end, it's not going to last much longer. Connie's supply is almost gone and it's down to the last half-box or so. I'm happy to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and yet, it's also sort of disappointing. It makes me wonder if you really could make an online business out of something like this if you tried.

In case any of you want to see what the coasters look like, just click the lj tag for them. I posted a few pictures a while back.
