Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Yesterday's snowfall wasn't the first of the season but it was substantial enough to stick and then stick around a day later. I didn't give much thought to it until now but that's pretty early as far as past years have gone. Usually we don't get a good snowfall until after Christmas. There's supposed to be a pretty big front moving in this friday and we'll get a lot more accumulation. That threat of additional snow caused a small note of contention today.

My dad's always been a hypochondriac and it extends to non-medical issues. He was complaining about the fact that there wouldn't be anyone around to deal with shoveling the driveway and sidewalks and that he would end up having to do it. To cut off the complaining, my mom asked Shelley to spend the night on Thursday so she could be shovel girl the next day. It seems sort of....I dunno, demeaning to have her schlep over just so she can shovel the walk. I took a look around on Craigslist for snow removal companies. The days of having the neighborhood kids come around $5-$10 is definitely gone. The cheapest price I could see quoted was $14 a hour per person. It's not like we have some sort of huge winding driveway and extensive sidewalks, but I'm sure that any company would claim they would need a couple of guys to take care of it. Add some malingering and they could stretch it out to a hour easy. Really, what I should do is just forget about calling someone, pop a double handful of pills, and try to give Shelley a hand with the job. It's just not going to be pleasant. I wish that we at least had one of those snowblowers. At least those look like they'd be fun to use.
