Is there a free lunch?

I've been up all night and only just popped some more pills in anticipation of finally going to sleep. That is until I was just reminded of something by a commercial on tv. Today is Tuesday. Tuesday the 3rd. Tuesday the 3rd where Denny's is giving away free Grand Slam breakfasts to any person who staggers into their restaurants.

Here's a news release about the promotion:

Denny's offers free breakfast

Denny's is buying breakfast for America today.

The national chain of restaurants will provide a free Grand Slam breakfast to anyone who visits their restaurants between 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Denny's announced the promotion in an ad during the Super Bowl. The company anticipates up to two million consumers will take advantage of the offer.

"This free offer is our way of re-acquainting America with Denny's real breakfast and with the Denny's brand," says Nelson Marchioli, CEO, Denny's.

Consumers who take advantage of the Denny's offer will get a coupon booklet that will give guests deals, including offers for additional free menu items with purchases.

I just visited the website and it seems that the catch may be that it's only while 'supplies last'. I can only imagine how many people are going to swarm Denny's today to try to get in on this offer. Hell, I might even be too late considering it's 47 minutes past 6am. This may even provoke a black friday like frenzy where people have lined up hours in advance and are looking for the slightest opportunity to trample people to death.

It is pretty amazing though. Think about it. This just could prove that old saying wrong and there is a free lunch. Well, more accurately a free breakfast in this case. I'm really tempted to go drive to a Denny's right now. Not necessarily because I would really like to eat breakfast or that I'm horribly cheap and will trek for a free meal (Not primarily anyway), it's more of a morbid curiosity. I think I really would like to see how many people have showed up for this. Are lines out the door and around the block? Are people rioting to get their food? I should take my Flip Mino and go document the event for posterity.

I will admit I would feel kinda spazzy if I went by myself. It would just seem really pathetic. Then again, it's not like there's anyone else I could drag with me, especially at this hour. I think it might only be more deranged to wake up some family member and suggest they go come along. I'm pretty sure they'd think I was insane.

Decisions, decisions.....

I usually don't mind going out to eat by myself. It just feels different when it's a promotion like this.

About the only thing I do feel uncomfortable doing by myself is going to a movie. It just doesn't seem right to see a film by yourself.

Personally I never go to restaurants on my own - if I did that I would have to pay the bill.

I only watch movies on my own if I'm on a plane.

Ya, but if someone else pays you have to put out. Those are the rules.

yeah it's gonna be a mad scramble...hahahaha get it? ...scramble?... ANYWAY.... i remember they were selling 25 cent pizzas here a few months back and there was a line from hell 2 blocks long... unless the pizza came in a solid gold box i wouldn't stand in line for 3 hours for it.

The line ended up being only 15 minutes. It was a pretty small crowd really. I was sorta disapointed.

So that's why there was a line around the block this morning at the Denny's across the street from my apartment.

I had no idea what the hell was going on.

I kind of want to go, just to get a free meal, you know. I never turn down free food. But yeah, not too keen on going there by myself.

So I assume you didn't make the trek in the end? It was actually sort of fun.
