Color me disappointed. I know that in the Olympic franchise, the winter olympics always placed a distant second to its much bigger and cooler summer sibling but I don't remember it being this bad. About the only positive thing I can say at this point is that at least it's not the Special Olympics and I'm not altogether sure I wouldn't be more entertained watching the latter. Everything has sucked balls seemingly from the beginning and a lot of the blame has to go to NBC.

Like many people, I reveled in the last summer olympics, held so deeply into the age of the internet that even those dinosaur media conglomerates had to take note. I remember watching a crapton of events online two years ago, and thoroughly enjoying myself at all hours of the day and night. Hell, half the time I didn't even have a preference and would just pick whatever live feed was going at the moment. The options were truly staggering and at any moment there would be at least a half dozen live events running or recaps for the tv audience rebroadcast during primetime and piped directly online.

I had expected something similar for the winter olympics this year and was looking forward to hours and hours of mindless entertainment to feed my insomnia. Instead, I get steaming piles of shit. Day after fucking day it seemed like there was nothing on except Hockey and Curling. I haven't watched hockey since they took away the laser puck, which I personally found entertaining, and curling is the retarded stepsister of shuffleboard. There's a reason you only find 80 year old geriatrics playing shuffleboard and adding 2 morons with pushbrooms just turns the entire thing from pathetic to ridiculous. It also doesn't help any when both US teams managed to suck an obscene amount of ass in the games I did watch.

Maybe the winter olympics simply has so many fewer events that it's impossible to hide but I found that many feeds simply didn't exist. I'm not sure if NBC simply decided to cut their olympics budget or if there's some other explanation for the paucity of options. For a certainty there were less videos with announcers and color commentators then what I remember from past years. Half of the videos were near incomprehensible because they only provided the Canadian announcer and English is apparently a subjugated language among our moose-fucking neighbors to the north. Everything had to be said in French first, which completely screwed with some of the more time-sensitive events. It's not a big deal when all you're waiting to hear is name and country, but it makes sorting out what the hell is happening in speed-skating near impossible sometimes.

Frankly, this entire winter olympics has been more disappointing then I can express. About the only good part of it came from a Polish newspaper who published a front page story on the olympic mascots. I think the picture speaks for itself.

For those of you unaware, it appears that Pedobear has joined the Canadian team. Whoever was writing the article apparently needed a picture of the mascots and went right to google, snagging the first image he saw. What he didn't realize is the top image at the time was someone's photoshop which added pedobear to the group. What's really disturbing if you think about it is that he fits right in, no? It'd be hard to pick out which one of those abominations really represented child molesters. Sort of fitting really because this entire olympics has touched me in a bad place.

I have found the winter olympics really boring (I never normally watch sports) sadly my boyfriend is from Canada so I am stuck watching them ~ luckily they will be hosting it some other places next time.

I haven't watched tv short of stints at hotels for well over a year now. I've been trying to watch the winter olympics on the NBC site for it and it's been crap. I have no clue why they changed things but everything worked much better 2 years ago.

I think it depended on what channels you get. I know that we had issues with NBC cause they bought a tank for their generator that was waay too small and we made them buy a bigger tank.I work for the company that was "The official supplier of Fuel " For the whole thing and its been an exhausting few weeks.
Anyhoo I prefere the winter to summer Olympics but then I get the outdoor channel and they had all the events on the TV.

It's all online for me and the options have been disappointing to say the least.

It's nice to know at least some people are getting something out of the olympics, even if it's just more business.

The Winter Olympics are here again! If you’re a U.S. viewer you can watch them live… except on the West Coast. We have the great misfortune of living in the actual time zone they’re being played in. So we see them delayed while folks in Greenland get them live.
