Damn plaguey crotch fruit

The streak is over. Make a note and pay off all bets.

I am sick.

I should have expected this. It's not like I haven't noted over the years that being around kids almost invariably leads to sickness. In past years, my mom, because she watches Connie's kids during the weekdays, usually catches colds one after another. The kids pass them around in an endless version of Chutes and Ladders, and just after someone recovers from the last go-around, the next one is steaming up the hill. I, on the otherhand, have managed to avoid getting sick for what feels like months if not years now. It's not like it's hard really. Just stay away from germy people and you usually don't have any problems. That streak came down in flames yesterday as I woke up with a sore throat and my nose running like a facet and I blame the crotch fruit.

It's not like I could really avoid them this time around. Maddie's birthday party was held at a gymnastics center and in addition to the 30 kids who attended, the center had at least again that many running around for other parties. I'm not even sure which one of the little Typhoid Mary's infected me but I know it had to be one of them. Or hell, it could have also been one of Connie's kids considering I spent a lot of time with them that day. Just because they didn't seem symptomatic doesn't mean that there wasn't something lurking, especially given their dip in the petri dish of humanity earlier that day.

The plus side is that I always recover quickly from colds and whatnot. It still sucks and the sore throat hurts and the clogged sinuses and leaking nose is obnoxious, but it always ends pretty quickly. It's only been around a day and change since I first noticed the symptoms and already the throat no longer really hurts unless I'm coughing. You can't really ask for more than that, and it's almost always been that way for me and colds. The immune system can't seem to prevent all of them but I don't usually end up having to suffer very long, unlike other people. I don't think I've ever gotten the flu in my entire life for instance, or if I have it was beaten down enough that I just chalked it up to a cold.

I have pictures and a video from Maddie's party and I'll try to get around to popping them up later today. It was an interesting day and left me feeling sorta nostalgic and jealous at the same time. Damn kids. When I was their age....*blah* *blah* walked to school uphill in the snow both ways *blah* *blah*.
